This beautiful Athena statue was gifted to the City of New York by the Mayor of Athens, Greece, in 1998. She is meant to celebrate and symbolize the Greek immigrants who were among the first communities in Astoria. Keeping her company are statues of Aristotle, Socrates, and Sophocles. She welcomes visitors to a beautiful and peaceful little park with plenty of benches and personal space for meditation and contemplation. It is also home to a small amphitheater with doric columns and there is an adjacent playground. She is part of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Her address is 30 Ave. bet. 29 St. and 30 St. in Astoria, Queens. Find out more about her here.
